Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I apply for a Housing Choice Voucher?
A. Lincoln Housing Authority participates in the statewide centralized waiting list. Go to www.waitlistcentralri.com for additional information and applications.
Q. As a Housing Choice Voucher Participant, how much will I pay for rent?
A. Tenants typically pay 30 percent of their income towards housing costs. The Housing Choice Voucher subsidy pays the rest under a certain amount called the “payment standard” based upon the HUD fair market rents.
Q. Is my Application kept confidential?
A. Yes. Only authorized Housing Authority personnel, HUD personnel and our auditors have access to such information. Information is not disclosed or released without proper authorization from the applicant
Q. Are there application fees?
A. No
Q. Are pets allowed in public housing?
A. Yes, with certain restrictions. Restrictions are outlined in our Pet Policy.
Q. Can political contacts influence my status on the waiting list?
A. No. Our agency follows strict HUD regulations with respect to tenant selection.
Q. Do you provide any services to the public housing residents?
A. We do not provide any direct services outside of housing and maintenance needs. However, we have a Recertification/Tenant Services Specialist on staff to assist wherever possible. Our facilities have access to local transportation services through the senior center, home health aide services, surplus food programs and more.
Q. Once my name is placed on the waiting list, do I have to do anything else?
A. Yes. Each year, the Housing Authority conducts an update of our Public Housing waiting list, and you will need to complete an annual application update to stay on the list. If your update is not returned by the date requested, your application will be withdrawn from the Wait List. At any time, you may be requested to submit verification of the information you provided on your application forms. You should contact our office any time your information changes, particularly changes in address, income or household size. Applicants on the Housing Choice Voucher waiting list will be contacted annually by RI Housing. Any changes to your application must be made at the www.waitlistcentralri.com website.
